The Evolution of Links House

Links House at Royal Dornoch, originally built in 1843, stands as a historic gem in the Scottish Highlands. This graceful building, initially a private residence, was thoughtfully converted into a luxury boutique hotel that reflects its storied past while embracing the comfort and elegance of modern amenities. Situated adjacent to the first tee at the Royal Dornoch Golf Club, which itself dates back to 1616 and is recognised globally, currently ranking 4th in the world, Links House really is a destination worth putting on your travel map.

The restoration and expansion of Links House were meticulously carried out to preserve its Victorian architectural essence. The addition of two new buildings in recent years, named Glenshiel and Glencalvie, followed the original aesthetic, expanding the hotel’s capacity while maintaining its historical integrity. These expansions were designed to offer enhanced comfort and luxury, accommodating the desires of guests from around the world, who seek both the thrill of the historic golf links and the tranquility of the Scottish countryside.

During my recent visit to Links House, I had the pleasure of staying in the Laxford apartment, a sanctuary that combines home comforts with the elegance of high-end accommodations. This pet-friendly retreat warmly welcomed not just myself but also my beloved dog, making it an ideal choice for traveler's who wish to share their experiences with their furry companions. The apartment features a self-catered kitchen, brilliantly equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, including a sophisticated coffee machine, ensuring mornings are as revitalising as they are delightful. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a quintessential Scottish welcome: a selection of fine whisky and freshly baked shortbread, setting the tone for a genuinely local experience.

The living quarters boast a king-sized bed adorned with an ensuite that comes generously supplied with luxury beauty products, adding a touch of indulgence to the practical comforts of home. The living area is the epitome of coziness, furnished with deep, sinking sofas and plush armchairs under mood lighting—the perfect nook for unwinding after a day exploring the highlands. Large windows frame views of a meticulously kept putting green, a constant invitation to step outside and enjoy the serene surroundings. Every detail in the Laxford apartment speaks of thoughtful luxury, tailored to make your stay at Links House unforgettable.
